BIRMINGHAM FITNESS BEYOND THE GYM!
With all the delicious food and drink Birmingham has to offer, exercising off the deliciousness is a necessity. It doesn’t have to be boring. In fact, your body reacts best when you mix up your fitness routine. Check out these unique Birmingham fitness options that are not your typical workout classes.
SWEAT BUCKETS & FEEL GREAT AT HOTWORX
Okay. We get it. In Alabama, you could do yoga outside your front door, if you wanted to sweat a ton. However, HOTWORX uses heat and infrared energy combined with exercise to flush toxins and accelerate workout recovery.
There’s a lot of science going on here, but what you need to know is you get into a modular infrared sauna with a super small group. You’ll have a 15-to-30-minute workout and torch calories. The Midtown location in Birmingham offers exercise options inside the hot boxes. There’s hot isometric workouts, hot warrior, hot buns, hot row and hot Pilates, to name a few.
FEEL LIKE AN ACROBAT WITH AERIAL YOGA
Imagine the graceful circus performers, dangling in the air, held only by silks. You won’t be that graceful when you start out at Aero Joe, but you can get there, and build some strength in the process. It’s the first aerial yoga fitness class in Alabama.
It blends traditional yoga with aerial arts. Don’t worry. There’s no need for any experience or skills to try out the beginner classes. Make sure you wear your favorite leggings and long sleeves to try out the class.
HULA HOOP YOURSELF TO A TRIM WAIST
A fitness routine that makes you feel like you’re back in elementary school again, sounds awesome. That’s what you can expect from Hoop For Fitness. The website promises the Hoop Dance lessons can tone your entire body, give you a great aerobic workout, and develop a smile.
You can join in on classes by checking the calendar or schedule your own hula dance party.
MIX UP YOUR FITNESS AT RAILRAOD PARK
Try a mix of several different workouts to keep your body moving on the grass in downtown Birmingham. Railroad Park has free exercise classes throughout the week on the lawn between 16th Street and 15th Streets or under the Regions Bank 17th Street Plaza Section B. So, all you need to do is show up 15 minutes before the classes to register with a bottle of water. There’s several different classes, like Jazzercise, Zumba and Bootcamp.
Check the schedule to see when classes are held.
