About John Moreland
An Oklahoma native, John Moreland consistently floors listeners with his heartfelt songwriting and the kind of raw delivery that can silence a room. His fifth solo work, LP5, released on Feb. 7 via Old Omens/Thirty Tigers and marks the first time that John Moreland has collaborated with an outside producer, Matt Pence (Jason Isbell). Moreland’s previous albums were recorded in simple, stripped-down settings, allowing his songwriting to shine, however on LP5 he felt that he wanted to expand on production ideas that he wasn’t able to execute alone. The elevated production adds new dimension to his music, while staying true to the gritty roots rock that defines his sound.
Moreland’s music provides an honest voice in a world that can be difficult to come to terms with. He has an incredible way of connecting with people through his lyrics and delivery, and LP5 reveals some of his most personal songs to date. Learn more about “When My Fever Breaks”, a song he wrote for his wife when they first started dating and took three years to complete, via Rolling Stone here. Moreland is touring extensively in support of the new album’s release, and his live performance will feature longtime bandmate John Calvin Abney.
Moreland’s previous albums have received high praise from a variety of outlets including NPR Music, Wall Street Journal, Pitchfork, Associated Press, GQ, The New Yorker, Entertainment Weekly and The Fader. He received a nomination from the Americana Music Association for their Emerging Artist Of The Year, and has made television appearances on CBS This Morning and a late night booking on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert. John Moreland’s music provides an honest voice in a world that can be hard to understand, and his newest work is something special.
