Lee Jackson Farms is located in The Black Belt region of Alabama about 150 miles from the Gulf Coast but that doesn't mean you can't grow and harvest saltwater shrimp. Here in Lowndes County the shrimp are the star of the show.
Eighty millions years ago the ocean stretched as far north as Memphis. The sea has long receded but it left behind saltwater aquifers. In layman’s terms, it’s perfect for growing shrimp!
Farm Fresh Shrimp
Lee Jackson Farms in the Alabama Black Belt Region may be a long way from The Gulf of Mexico today but the new aqua-culture operation produces sweet, succulent, shrimp. The farm formed in 2001 to produce the saltwater delight.
It’s owned by Daisy Jackson and Lee Jackson Jr. Lee is a graduate of the University of Alabama. He’s also a member of the Alabama Inland Shrimp Producers Association. So they know seafood!
