Snow was predicted in the south. That means that most of you reading this made a mad dash to the closest grocery store and fought the crowds to get precious bread and milk! The snow never came, and now you’re stuck with a lot of bread that’s going to go bad if you don’t use it! Here are some ideas for what you can do with all of that leftover bread!
6 ways to use leftover bread
1. Make a grilled cheese sandwich!
Everybody loves a grilled cheese sandwich! That melted gooey cheese sandwiched between two toasted pieces of bread, I’m getting palpitations just thinking about it. You can pair them with chips or soup or just eat it by itself! You can customize it by putting all sorts of cheese inside. Got some Pimento Cheese in the fridge? THROW IT IN THERE! Want to kick it up a notch? Mix extra sharp cheddar with some goat cheese. Go wild.
2. Take your sandwiches to another level, literally.
What’s better than a sandwich? How about a double-decker version of that sandwich with twice as much meat and toppings! Why stop there!?!? Make a tripe-decker! Pile a sandwich high enough to make even Dagwood proud!
3. Make delicious bread pudding
This recipe for bread pudding from Jen Reviews is a great way to turn leftover bread into a delicious dessert just like Grandma used to make! Made from ingredients you can find around your house this easy to follow recipe will have your whole family asking for seconds in no time!
4. French Toast for breakfast!
This quick and easy French Toast recipe from McCormick is the best way to make your breakfast more continental. All it takes is 1 egg, some vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, milk and obviously some bread! I’ve actually cooked this recipe and I can confirm that it is not only quick and easy but it’s also absolutely delicious.
5. Make your own croutons!
This recipe from Gimme Some Oven shows just how easy it can be to make your own croutons out of leftover bread!
All you need is bread, olive oil and some seasonings! Garlic powder, salt, pepper, maybe some Italian seasoning?
You basically just dice up the bread into small cubes, toss with oil and seasoning, put them on a baking sheet and bake until crispy!
6. Recreate classic memes with your cat
This one obviously requires a cat, or at least an understanding friend or family member that owns a cat.
This meme is called cat breading and it’s way more popular that I realized.
Whether or not your cat will tolerate having bread around their head obviously varies from cat to cat so use caution when approaching your feline friend with a handful of leftover bread.
