Mrs. B's Home Cooking is the place to find real soul food in Montgomery.
Mrs. B’s Home Cooking is a hidden gem offering soul food in Montgomery. Margaret Boyd (Mrs. B) has been at the helm of this Central Alabama tradition for years, and she’s not planning on stopping anytime soon. We visited Mrs. B’s recently, and found out why people were so excited to visit.
Mrs. B’s is some of the best soul food in Montgomery
When you pull up to the nondescript restaurant, you might have a hard time identifying it as a food stop – the restaurant lives inside an old, traditional Montgomery house. Sure – there are a few signs out front that announce food and drink specials, but they’re easy to miss if grub isn’t on the mind. Another thing you’ll notice are flags honoring each of the military’s branches; servicemen and women from across the globe find their way to Mrs. B’s through Maxwell Air Force Base.
The home-like atmosphere of Mrs. B’s gives these travelers an opportunity to break bread with locals and experience true, southern soul food. When you walk into Mrs. B’s Home Cooking, there’s always a hearty welcome waiting. All you’ve got to do is take a right, and you’re taken to a buffet of greasy, seasoned goodness: fried chicken, pork, sweet potatoes, green beans, mashed potatoes, rolls – if you can name it, Mrs. B has got it. She even offers deals every day of the week, which feature different meats or dishes so you can plan your visit accordingly.
