We caught up with Teresa Cottrell at The Little London to talk about some of their authentic and delicious British dishes.
The Little London brings the international flavors of London to Birmingham! They’re also serving up a slice of British culture!
The Little London story
Little London Kitchen was the brainchild of Bea and her husband Matthew. Bea is from London, UK and her husband Matthew is a Birmingham Alabama native. The two met in Manhattan, New York and decided to get a little peace and quiet by moving to Birmingham. Bea wanted to share not only the cuisine of London with the people of Birmingham but also the culture. The two purchased a vintage double-decker bus and started a food truck venture named “Little London Kitchen.”
The 1968 Leyland double-decker bus, named Duchess, has been a hugely popular fixture in the Birmingham food truck scene for the past few years. Duchess was shipped from Britain to Canada, then to Denver CO. Bea and Matthew purchased Duchess and after numerous issues with insurance companies falling through to bring her to Alabama, they decided to hire a driver and bring her down themselves! After a few hundred extra miles added to the road trip, because her top speed is only 40mph, Duchess made it to her new home in Birmingham Alabama.
The Little London restaurant and pub
Bea and Matthew have now expanded their operation past that of only a food truck and have now opened The Little London! Located on Oxmoor Road in Homewood, the restaurant features a larger menu than what was on offer in the food truck as well as many fan favorites.
The goal is to eventually create a traditional British pub-style atmosphere where everyone in the neighborhood can enjoy good food, good drinks, and good conversation.
