Good People Brewing Company started out as a home-brewing hobby shared by two Auburn graduates and began operating professionally in September 2007 with their first brew, a brown ale, debuting July 4, 2008. Good People Brewing Co. is the oldest and largest brewery in the state which makes it the first of the Birmingham Breweries to open. Outside food is permitted and anyone under 21 must be accompanied by a guardian.

Founded in 2010, Avondale Brewing Company revels in the history of the Avondale area, so much so that they’ve named all of their beers after the folklore of the area. It’s not just the beers that are steeped in history, the historic building in which the brewery and tap room are located was once a post office, a firehouse, a bank and a popular saloon. The upper floor was at one point a secret bordello, servicing the saloon’s patrons below.

Cahaba Brewing Company was founded in the summer of 2011 by a group of friends united by their love of craft beer and home brewing and started brewing in the late spring of 2012. Originally located in the Pepper Place/Lakeview district, the brewery is now located in the Historical Continental Gin Complex on 5th Ave. Being located in a 51,000 square foot building has allowed a massive expansion of their production facility and their taproom is large enough to accommodate a variety of private events.

TrimTab Brewing Company started in February of 2014. Located in the Lakeview district in the former Barber Motorsports Museum property, TrimTab’s 2000 square-foot tap room, called a “tasting gallery” is also a fee-free art gallery for local artists.

Ghost Train Brewing was founded in 2014, began brewing in 2015 and opened their own brewery and tap room in 2016 in Cahaba Brewing’s former space at 2616 3rd Avenue South. In 2017 Ghost Train doubled their brewing capacity with larger tanks, added an in-house canning line and also a small distillery.

Back Forty Beer Company joined Birmingham’s thriving craft beer scene in the summer of 2018 with the opening of their new microbrewery at Sloss Docks. With amazing views of Sloss Furnaces it’s the perfect spot to enjoy a beer, do a little train watching, enjoy the occasional live band. If you get hungry, Back Forty is one of the only Birmingham Breweries with food. The Back Forty Kitchen serves up a variety of American pub foods that are primarily sourced through local growers.
