Perfect for a cold, dreary night.
When the weather outside is cold and dreary, we can’t think of anything better to warm up with than a well made Irish Coffee. We stopped by Japp’s Since 1879 to sit at the bar with famed Cincinnati mixologist and entrepreneur Molly Wellmann, who taught us the history of the classic drink and an easy-to-make recipe you should definitely try at home.
The Classic Irish Coffee made by Molly Wellmann
What you’ll need
- A heat resistant glass.
- Brown sugar
- Irish whiskey
- Freshly brewed coffee
- Good whipped cream
- NOTE: As Molly says in this video, the whipped cream is very important. Instead of a cheaper/more commonly used version, go for something a little higher end that’s heavier and able to hold it’s own when poured on top.
- In a heat resistant glass, add 3 spoonfuls of brown sugar and 1.5 oz. of your favorite Irish Whiskey.
- Mix briefly to combine, then add your fresh coffee while continuing to stir. Fill almost to the top, leaving enough room for your whipped cream.
- With a spoon, lightly add your whipped cream to the top.
